Retro-styled 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee will finally be available on the Switch in December, eight months after the game’s initial release.
Scheduled to launch on December 14, the newest version of the game will initially only be available in digital format, though a physical edition is being discussed. The Switch port will include as standard the patch that improved the control scheme and signposting, as well as a host of minor niggles.
Additionally, the developers at Playtonic have worked alongside Nintendo directly to ensure that the game will run at 900p and 600p in docked and portable mode, respectively, and have also focused on optimisation to bring the title closer to the 30 frame-per-second target rate than the earlier releases.
During its successful Kickstarter campaign from 2015, Yooka-Laylee was announced as receiving a WiiU version, but development difficulties scuppered those plans. Soon after the cancellation, a Switch port was announced, and backers that have selected that as their preferred platform will receive a download code on the day of release.
