Vanquish, a third-person shooter video game developed by PlatinumGames for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, released today, May 25, 2017, for PC and is available on Steam.

The game takes place in the near future when Earth’s population has increased dramatically and nations vie for control of the planet’s scarce resources. The United States, in an attempt to relieve its energy problems, launches a space station named Providence that provides the US with an alternative, solar energy source. However, after a rebellion by a sect of Russian military operatives, dubbed the Order of the Russian Star, the space station is captured by the rogue military sect, who create a solar blast wave with the station’s energy to devastate San Francisco. Players take control of Sam Gideon, who accompanies a squad of veteran US marines tasked with retaking Providence before the Russian militants unleash another attack.

Vanquish originally released in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Published by Sega, the game received mostly favorable reviews, with reviewers praising the game’s visuals, over-the-top gameplay, and fast pace. However, Vanquish was criticized for its short length, uninspired plot, and corny dialogue.
