Despite the long absence of franchises such as Prince of Persia, Driver, and Splinter Cell, publisher Ubisoft is open to bringing them back.
Speaking to IGN during E3 2017, Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat said the revival of any dormant IPs depends on both the creative idea behind the potential new entry and the existing market. Mallat said that the possibility, however, is ultimately up to the staff members:
“If some of the creative comes to us and says ‘Hey, by the way, I have this crazy idea’ about a brand that we haven’t done anything with for many years, we will listen,” said Mallat.
According to Mallat, Ubisoft Montreal, in particular among the publisher’s studios, aims to generate an open platform for creativity so that everyone in the team feels free to pitch their ideas. Mallat said that one of the central goals within Ubisoft Montreal is to “nurture the creative side of the studio and make sure we build an environment where the people feel empowered, feel free to try, feel free to fail, feel free to express themselves.”
