Biomutant Set To Be THQ Nordic’s Next Major Franchise

THQ Nordic is set to make the recently revealed “kung-fu fable” RPG Biomutant a major franchise, following the acquisition of the game’s developer Experiment 101.

Previously, the developer and publisher had partnered up for the game.

While THQ Nordic has acquired the full rights to the IP and 100% of the shares in the development studio, the company has stressed that Stefan Ljungqvist, Experiment 101’s Head of Studio, will remain in charge of future Biomutant projects and will assist in THQ Nordic’s strategy. This new arrangement might point to Biomutant being seen as an integral part of THQ Nordic’s future, and the publisher seems keen on expanding it into a major franchise.

THQ Nordic acquired Experiment 101 and the Biomutant IP for 75.3 million Krona ($8.9 million), with an additional earnout guaranteed to the developer if those 150% of acquisition and development costs are recuperated within three years of the game’s initial release.

Lars Wingefors, THQ Nordic CEO, said that, “after the strong reception Biomutant received at its announcement at Gamescom 2017, we are excited to have been able to acquire Experiment 101… Our aim is to build Biomutant into one of our major franchises.”
