Edmund McMillen, lead developer on The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy, has confirmed that he and programmer Tyler Glaiel are almost ready to reveal the details on a previously unannounced game.
Taking to Tumblr to introduce the next round of booster content for The Binding of Isaac, McMillen ended the update with a tease of the new “secret” project. McMillen’s post is coy on specific details, but does state the that game will be “hard… weird… personal… easily one of the largest games [McMillen has] ever made level wise.”
Little can be gathered from those few hints, but McMillen also states that he and Glaiel have been in “crunch mode” for the past three months, and are now almost ready to announce both the game and a release date.
Although the developer has previously announced other projects, including the turn-based puzzle RPG The Legend of Bum-bo, the reference in the Tumblr post to an “unannounced IP” suggests that the newest project is something different. Unfortunately, with no concrete information to draw from, the style and genre of the game is entirely up to speculation, and McMillen’s legacy suggests that anything is possible.
