Telltale Games has today announced that the third season of its highly acclaimed The Walking Dead series, A New Frontier will premiere on December 20.
Like previous seasons, A New Frontier will consist of five episodes, with each presenting choices that will have affect the story of later episodes in various ways. Meanwhile, the gameplay is expected to retain the point-and-click elements, interactive conversations, and quick-time events that characterise the saga.
The story picks up several years on from both Season Two and the miniseries released earlier this year, Michonne, though few details of its plot have been revealed. Clementine will return as a protagonist, alongside a new playable character named Javier.
In addition to the digital release for mobile devices, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, Telltale announced that PS4 and Xbox One users will be able to purchase a physical ‘Season Pass Disc’, which will include the first episode and download codes for the remainder, beginning from February 7, 2017. Those who preorder the game digitally on PS4 will receive free copies of both Season Two and Michonne, while Steam users will receive a 10% discount for preordering the entire season.
A first detailed look at A New Frontier will be on offer at The Game Awards on December 1.
OnlySP’s Gareth Newnham reviewed The Walking Dead: Michonne on its release earlier this year, giving the game 6/10, saying that ” the main narrative, with its predictable outcome and humdrum cast, simply isn’t strong enough to convincingly hold the series together”.
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is just one piece of Telltale Games’ busy schedule, with the developer yet to release the final episode of their Batman series, and with an adaptation of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and a second season of Game of Thrones reportedly in the works.
