Sumo Digital has announced that its upcoming physics-based platformer, Snake Pass, will release for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch on March 29.
Snake Pass is a retro-styled adventure game that has players controlling two characters, a snake and a hummingbird, as they make their way through a lush jungle environment in order to restore the lost magic to their home, Haven Tor. In order to do so, players must collect a series of keystones that will unlock magical gates, as well as uncovering the identity and motivations of the one who has caused the damage.
The game is built upon its traversal mechanics, which will require players to “think like a snake” as they slither to move and coil around objects to climb, resulting in an experience entirely unlike most other character-based platformers. The unique qualities of the title have been met with widespread praise from sources that have had the opportunity to go hands on with the game.
Snake Pass has been confirmed to offer PS4 Pro and Xbox Play Anywhere support, ensuring that players will have plenty of opportunities to get their preferred experience from the game.
Snake Pass will be Sumo Digital’s first self-published IP, and grew out of an internal game jam resulting from new management in the studio back in 2015.
Despite the imminence of Snake Pass, Sumo Digital is also working of Dead Island 2, after taking over the reins from Yager Development last year, and contributing work to Crackdown 3. The development team has most recently provided support for Forza Horizon 3, with their last fully-internally developed title being LittleBigPlanet 3.
