Earlier today, Warner Bros. and Monolith Studios gifted fans with ‘Friend or Foe’, a short, interactive cinematic film promoting the upcoming release of Middle Earth: Shadow of War.
Shot on location in Ukraine within the shadow of a 13th century fortress, ‘Friend or Foe’ transports viewers into the black reaches of Mordor. There, the ranger (and playable character) Talion leads his Orc army in a brutal, harrowing assault against the hulking War Chief Noruk and his slavering horde of followers. The battle culminates in a confrontation between Talion and Noruk, a cliffhanger moment in which the ranger must make a decision—does he slay his nemesis, or save the loyal ally who remained at his side throughout the battle?
Fans who view the trailer can visit shadowofwar.com and decide what choice Talion makes. Six alternative endings reflect Shadow of War‘s Nemesis system, where every action is remembered by the game’s AI, leading to close friendships and intense rivalries.
A dark, gritty, live-action showpiece packed with excitement, the online spot is sure to whet gamers’ appetites, filling them with eager anticipation and leaving them hungering for more.
Helmed by director Neil Huxley, ‘Friend or Foe’ and its multiple endings constitute the first live-action Lord of the Rings project led by anyone other than Peter Jackson. OnlySP recently had the pleasure of sitting down and talking to Huxley about the process of filming ‘Friend or Foe,’ the challenges he and his crew faced along the way, and how honored he felt to have the opportunity to work on such a beloved franchise.
