A new addition to the Sudden Strike series, Sudden Strike 4, has been announced by publisher Kalypso Media Digital and developer Kite Games. A trailer has also been released of the title.
Although that isn’t to say it’ll be the same song-and-dance developers Fireglow Games set in place with their previous game Sudden Strike: The Last Stand back in 2010. The Steam page boasts:
“In a first for the Sudden Strike series, you can now choose from one of nine individual commanders, such as George Patton or Bernard Montgomery, who will each allow for different approaches to combat and boast unique abilities.”
As well as this, there are has been promised “bigger battlefields, more units, better graphics, new scenarios” which looks to deliver a more tactical and realistic WW2 experience than ever before. Considering it claims over 100 different units, 3 campaigns (English/American, German and Soviet) and 20 single-player scenarios, that may actually be the case here.
Perhaps a very interesting addition is the focus more on clever and tactical play. There is a “challenge-focused skirmish mode.” Also, Gematsu reported about a new reward system that looks to reward being a masterful tactician by granting skill points and bonus content (e.g. historical film footage). This hopes to encourage high-risk/high-reward play rather than throwing bodies at the problem.
Currently Sudden Strike 4 can be pre-ordered on Steam (with a discount), which will land you an exclusive skirmish match (Battle of Kursk), the soundtrack, and an art book. Currently, the release date is May 5, 2017.
