With a couple days to spare, Pine, an action-adventure game developed by Twirlbound using the Unity engine, has met its Kickstarter goal.
Influenced by Bloodborne, Fable, Shadow of Mordor, and The Legend of Zelda, Pine is an independent project in which the player’s actions, or inactions, influence the world around them. Enemies adapt to a gamer’s particular playstyle and, like Albamare—the island on which Pine takes place—evolve over time. According to information found on the game’s Kickstarter page, players take control of Hue, a member of a “near-extinct leftover tribe,” and their job is to find a new home for said tribe. However, events that shape the island’s ecology will occur with or without the player’s participation. Survival of the fittest is the law of the land in Pine.
Puzzles that lead to discoveries about the island’s history and what shaped its current ecology also await players. Discover clues, complete quests, and explore caves and other terrains in a journey to figure out how the Albamare’s “current evolutionary course came to pass.” During their expeditions, players will gain access to different tools to fight or scare enemies as well as traverse the vast island of Albamare. More information can be found in an interview that OnlySP conducted with the developers last year, the game’s Kickstarter page, and the Twirlbound’s official website.
Pine is currently slated for release on Linux, Mac, and PC in November, 2018.
