The cast of Critical Role and Obsidian Entertainment have released further information on their partnership for the upcoming title Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.
After last weekend’s reveal that the entire cast of Critical Role—all talented and veteran voice actors—would be voicing characters in Deadfire, Obsidian has gone one step further by revealing that as part of a free DLC, players can download special portraits and voice lines for the party members, which will turn them into the members of Vox Machina, the group of characters starring in Critical Role.
As Critical Role is centred around a Dungeons & Dragons game, in a fantasy setting, putting these characters into Deadfire’s world of Eora seems a natural fit.
A host of tweets from the cast, as well as an announcement on Deadfire’s official website, confirmed that this DLC will be available at launch on May 8.
Soooo, btw, this is also happening. Want Vox Machina portraits and voice sets (including Gilmore) to use in the new Pillars? We got your back. https://t.co/akNu0kx96i

Boom! “As a special treat, the Critical Role cast is returning to the characters they popularized in their first Dungeons & Dragons campaign, Vox Machina, allowing Deadfire players to choose Critical Role’s character voices for their created party members in the game.” https://t.co/ULnHRkgH7j — Sam Riegel (@samriegel) April 10, 2018
The response from the Critical Role community seems to have been strong enough that the website for pre-ordering Deadfire, Versus Evil, has been experiencing technical issues.
You amazing #Critters are hugging the Versus Evil site right now. We’re looking into issues and will report back soon. <3
