News recently broke that a petition on change.org, was requesting that the late Robin Williams be featured as an NPC character in the new Legend of Zelda for Wii U. Williams had been a big fan of Nintendo for many years and even named his daughter after the eponymous character as well as appearing in commercials for Legend of Zelda.

Nintendo has now responded to the petition that has managed to gain over 101,000 signatures in a couple of days. Nintendo released a statement to Polygon.com about their love for the star, and that no announcements will be  made at the time.

Robin Williams was loved at Nintendo. Our hearts go out to his entire family, and especially to Zelda Williams who we’ve worked with multiple times.

We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community, and hear the request of fans to honor him in a future game. We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close

The petition was created by Nick Schaedel. Earlier in the week another petition asked for Williams to be remembered in World of Warcraft, which Blizzard announced will happen soon.
