As Shadow of War’s release date inches a little bit closer, Monolith Productions and Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment have released a new trailer for the heavily-anticipated open-world action RPG.

The new trailer introduces some of the new environments available for players to traverse outside of Mordor. However, the areas shown in the trailer are merely examples of what players could experience during a playthrough. Due to the Nemesis System—a gameplay mechanic in which players may encounter different bosses, the same boss multiple times (who will remember the player), and recruit Uruk-hai and Olog-Hai to their cause—players may experience different atmospheres each time they visit an area or each playthrough. More details on the Nemesis System will be forthcoming at a later date. Watch the full open-world trailer here.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is the sequel to 2014’s Shadow of Mordor. The game takes place between the events of The Hobbit™ and The Lord of the Rings™. Building upon the first game’s Nemesis System and continuing the story of Talion, a technically deceased ranger whose body has been infused with the spirit of an elf named Celebrimbor, and will see the two characters embark on a journey to battle the newly risen Sauron and his Nazgul forces. Talion has forged a new Ring of Power, which Celebrimbor believes can be used to become a powerful king rather than a dark lord. While Shadow of War’s predecessor was more of an open-world hack-and-slash, the new game will take an action roleplaying approach.

Shadow of War is being developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game is scheduled to release on August 11, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game will also be made available for Microsoft’s newest system, codenamed “Project Scorpio,” which is scheduled to release by the end of 2017.
