Piranha Bytes has released a new trailer for its upcoming science-fantasy RPG, ELEX, highlighting the Berserkers, one of the game’s three factions.
Narrated by a Berserker, the trailer delves into the mindset and philosophy of the war-like faction, which transforms the resource of Elex into Mana to power their magical abilities, as well as to heal the ravaged planet of Magalan. The commentary also hints at the overarching conflict of the game, with the narrator mentioning “the war with the machine.”
The footage is drawn entirely from the game, showing off the Berserkers’ village, a small amount of exploration, and both melee and magic-based combat against a number of organic foes including small dinosaur-like beings, humanoids, and a giant:
The Berserkers are one of three factions that players can take control of in ELEX, with the others being the Clerics and the Outlaws, each of which uses the resource of Elex in very different ways. Players will be able to create a character, choose whichever faction that most suits their playstyle, and make choices that will affect the state of the world.
The developers are promising that the game includes one of the largest selection of weapons ever seen in a game, ranging from the medieval in the form of swords, bows, and harpoons to the futuristic in plasma rifles and flamethrowers.
Piranha Bytes is a veteran German studio whose previous credits include the first three entries of the Gothic series, as well as the Risen series, both of which have received mixed reviews across their lifespans.
More background details on the game are available in the prologue trailer released last month, and in OnlySP’s previous coverage. ELEX is currently targeting a release in Q3, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
