Ratchet and Clank Remaster Team Rebrands as Deck Nine

Deck Nine

Idol Minds, the developer behind 2012’s remaster of the PlayStation 2 Ratchet and Clank games and 2007’s Pain, has decided to rebrand as Deck Nine Games as means of signifying a shift in development focus going forward.

Unlike the team’s previous efforts, new games will centre around the narrative aspect of the projects, enabled by the creation of a new game engine. The engine, called StoryForge, is designed to provide Deck Nine’s writers and directors new tools to speed up the processes of creation while maintaining a high level of quality. Two new programs, Playwrite and Storyteller, are key to these efforts, and more details about each of them are available at the developer’s official website.

The rebranding is also inspired by a recent influx to the studio, which has brought on a range of veterans with experience in gaming, film, and television, ensuring that any new games will have a diverse array of creative backgrounds to draw from.

Deck Nine Games also announced that the team has partnered with a major AAA publisher to create a new entry in a critically-acclaimed franchise, taking the form of a narrative adventure. More details of the game will be announced at E3 later this month. In the past, Idol Minds has worked closely with Sony, working on the late 1990s snowboarding series, Cool Boarders, in addition to the project listed above, but whether that partnership remains in place is yet to be seen.

OnlySP will have the first details of Deck Nine’s new game during E3, but in the meantime, be sure to bookmark the website and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr for all the latest from the world of single-player gaming.
