At the Mountains of Madness, H.P. Lovecraft’s novella from the 1930’s, is being actualized into a video game. Set in the time period the story was originally written, you play as geologist William Dyer, a professor at Miskatonic University, as part of an expedition to Antarctica in search of undiscovered fossils and zones unexplored by man. It is being developed using Unreal Engine 4 by Team Clockworks, a team of two developers located in Valencia, Spain.
The game is set in first person and will have you exploring the mountainous environment, utilizing supplies for survival to keep yourself warm, fed and healthy, making your way through procedurally-generated dungeon labyrinths, and fighting some of the creatures Lovecraft describes in the story. Development is still fairly early, but you can check out some gameplay below.
The project has been greenlit on Steam for a PC release and according to the Steam Greenlight page, a Kickstarter is forthcoming. At this time there is no firm release date. You can also check out the developers’ site here.
