At Minecon in London, England, Telltale Games today released the world premiere trailer and first cast details for Minecraft: Story Mode.
Based on the wildly-popular Minecraft franchise borne from, and in partnership with, the minds of Mojang, Minecraft: Story Mode is getting a similar blueprint to how Telltale Games does all its work. It will be a 5-part episodic game series that is narrative-driven and based on Mojang’s work. However, the story and game will be a standalone separate story that is independent from the one created by Mojang.
Minecraft: Story Mode follows Jesse, voiced by veteran actor Patton Oswalt, and his group of friends. Jesse and his friends believe in the legend of The Order of the Stone: four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The four heroes had the perfect combination of specialties: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer and Architect. While attending EnderCon, Jesse and co. learn that a terror that once laid in slumber has been unleashed, threatening their entire world. To save it, they must journey on an epic quest to find the Order of the Stone and enlist their help.
The cast announced so far includes Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West, and Paul Reubens. Additional casting details for the season are yet to be announced.
Telltale CEO and co-founder, Kevin Brunner, stated that
Through Telltale’s choice-based gameplay and a story spanning from the Nether to the Farlands, the End, and beyond, we can’t wait for fans to experience this new take on the beloved world of Minecraft.
Minecraft: Story Mode is slated for release later this year on PC, Mac, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and compatible iOS and Android-based products.
