The developers at Thunder Lotus Games have teased the final boss for their upcoming platformer, Sundered, with a new trailer.
With the game drawing inspiration from the works of H. P. Lovecraft, the boss’s name, fittingly, is Nyarlathotep, drawn from one of central creatures of the Cthulhu Mythos. In Sundered, Nyarlathotep takes the form of an enormous humanoid beast who upper half emerges from some kind of portal. The boss’s skillset is not detailed, but appears to consist of both physical and magical attacks:
Sundered is the second title from Thunder Lotus Games, which previously developed Jotun. The game follows a young woman, Eshe, who stumbles into a cavern that provides insight into the events that ruined the world many years earlier.
The project is a 2D metroidvania, with players collecting Elder Shards from each of the game’s six bosses, which can be used to upgrade and alter Eshe’s abilities. The choice to upgrade, however, is central to the game’s narrative, which asks players to decide whether to embrace or resist the otherworldly powers.
Thunder Lotus Games ran a Kickstarter campaign for the project earlier this year, earning more than CA$200,000 from an initial goal of CA$25,000. Although the developers offered no stretch goals, DLC for the title will be free to all backers.
Sundered is currently expected to launch next month on PC and PlayStation 4. For much more on the game, be sure to check back with OnlySP for an upcoming preview and exclusive interview with Thunder Lotus Games.
