Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen Coming to PS4 and Xbox One

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

Capcom has today announced that 2013’s Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be ported to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in autumn.

Compared to the original release of the game, these new additions will feature higher-resolution graphics, putting them on a par with last year’s PC version of the title. Unfortunately, no further additions for game, such as extra content, gameplay balancing, or other advanced visual features have been announced at the present time.

Today’s announcement commemorates the fifth anniversary of the first game in the Dragon’s Dogma saga, which has sold more than three million copies since first releasing in May of 2015.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is an updated re-release of the base game, packaging in all of the first game’s DLC, a new environment, and a raft of minor tweaks and content additions, which originally released in April 2013. The game received a belated release on PC last year, which OnlySP’s Dan Seidel found to be an unsatisfying way to play the game due to poor controls and a questionable save system.

Despite these shortcomings, the core game remains as strong as ever, with Dan saying, “the highly explore-able world with its terrifying nights, character customization, and tactical depth provide an almost intimidating amount of gameplay, and the boss-climbing, fast-paced combat is highly engaging.”

At the time the port was released, a Capcom representative stated that the reception to the release may impact the company’s decision to move ahead with a sequel, and the new ports seem to indicate that Capcom continues to test the waters, in much the same way Nordic Games re-released the first two Darksiders games ahead of the official unveiling of Darksiders III.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year.
