Similar to most standalone expansions, developer Arkane Studios says newcomers are welcome to start the stealth action-RPG series with Dishonored: Death of the Outsider.
While Dishonored: Death of the Outsider leans heavily on the plot of the first Dishonored and its expansions, Director Harvey Smith said no prior knowledge is required to enjoy the upcoming game. “If you’ve never played a Dishonored game, you can actually go pick up Death of the Outsider and it can be your entry point into the series,” says Smith in a video. “You don’t need to know anything from before.”
Smith adds that Dishonored: Death of the Outsider concludes the plot of Empress Jessamine Kaldwin’s assassination, which was the main plot tackled in the first Dishonored.
Revealed at Bethesda’s E3 2017 press conference, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a direct sequel to Dishonored 2 and stars Billie Lurk alongside her mentor, Daud. The two characters take on “an almost impossible mission” to kill the Outsider, who is a “supernatural god-like figure.” Similar to Dishonored protagonists Corvo Attano and Emily Kaldwin, Lurk possesses supernatural abilities, though hers were not granted by the Outsider.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider launches September 15 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is only purchasable as a standalone expansion, available digitally and physically for USD$29.99.
