Developer Zoetrope Interactive and publisher Iceberg Interactive have announced the upcoming console release of Lovecraft-inspired horror-adventure title Conarium.
Originally released for PC on June 6 of this year, Conarium arrives on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles early in 2018. In addition, Iceberg Interactive plans to showcase the game two weeks from now at PAX West in Seattle, offering a playable version at booth 7117 on the sixth floor of the Washington State Convention Center.
Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s 1936 novella At the Mountains of Madness, Conarium thrusts players into the shoes of Frank Gilman, a man who finds himself awakening in an Antarctic research base with amnesiac recollection of how he arrived there. Gilman must explore the base in search of escape and understanding while employing a strange device which invites the induction of strange, dark visions and aberrant dreams that attempt to encapsulate the milieu of Lovecraft’s literary works.
Onur Şamlı of Zoetrope Interactive spoke of the upcoming console release, saying “It is truly an honor to bring Conarium to consoles. We are overwhelmed by the praise we’ve received so far and cannot wait to delight and terrify console owners with our carefully and lovingly crafted ode to Lovecraft.”
OnlySP’s Marley Hannan offered an honest, forthcoming review accounting his experience with Conarium earlier this summer. Stating that the game had good points, including loyalty to the Lovecraftian source material, beautiful design and surreal atmosphere, Hannan also characterized Conarium‘s counter-intuitive puzzles as frustrating and irritating, thus lowering overall gameplay experience.
