CD Projekt Red’s Return to Witcher Series Predicted to Release Before 2021

The Witcher 3 (CD Projekt)

Following news that CD Projekt Red will be returning to the Witcher franchise, an earlier financial report suggests that this continuation will release before 2021.

CD Projekt’s CEO Adam Kiciński reignited interest in the series earlier today, when a translated report from Polish outfit Bankier emerged which indicated the studio will be returning to the franchise. Speaking on the studio’s future, Kiciński stated the following:

“The first three [games] were by definition a trilogy, so we simply could not name the next game ‘The Witcher 4‘. This does not mean, of course, that we will leave the world of The Witcher […] The Witcher is one of two franchises on which to build the future activities of the company.”

The admission that the game is to form the foundation of CD Projekt’s future correlates with its five-year-plan to develop two major titles before 2021.

The identity of the first title, Cyberpunk 2077, is known, with the second title merely being described as a “AAA RPG,” which aligns with this new Witcher iteration. Thanks to analyst DomsPlaying for making the observation:

With Cyberpunk being such a significant effort for CD Projekt, nobody expected the studio to return to its beloved franchise so quickly. Refreshingly, this new title will follow some untold stories in the series’s universe, and may form the basis for a new legacy of content.
