Call of Duty Franchise To “Return to Its Roots” This Winter

Activision’s next Call of Duty entry this December will “return to its roots.”

According to separate reports by IGN and Eurogamer, in a recent call to investors, Activision acknowledged the less-than-stellar sales numbers of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare late last year.

The latest entry in the storied video game franchise saw relatively-good sales volumes, but they still fell far short of more-successful titles in the past and indeed of its publisher’s own goals. Activision has stated that it notes just how much the space-focused game “didn’t resonate” with players.

Despite the disappointments of Infinite Warfare, when talking about the future of the franchise, Activision CEO, Eric Hirshberg, said “that we’ve never been more excited creatively or commercially about our three-year Call of Duty slate.”

It goes without saying then that Activision and fans alike are optimistic about the former’s statement that, this December, the next Call of Duty will once again focus on “traditional combat.”

Will it be a historical setting/time period, if rumors are right? The cliche answer will suffice for now: We’ll just have to wait and see for more information.

Until then, what do you think about this tidbit of information about the next entry in the franchise? Let us know in the comments below!
