The upcoming Prey reboot, from Dishonored developer Arkane Studios, will launch on May 5, 2017.
This announcement comes alongside a new gameplay trailer (embedded below) that shows off some of the creative enemies, weapons, and abilities that the game will offer players, along with some of the story elements that have been revealed previously. Among the most notable of those abilities is the ability to transform into inanimate objects, while weapons include various types of specialised firearms and what appears to be a gravity grenade.
Prey is something of a departure for Arkane Studios, moving from the steampunk and fantasy settings of the team’s previous games to a sci-fi world. Despite this, the fusion of action, stealth, and narrative in the game carries echoes of the Dishonored series.
Prey is a follow-up to the 2006 game of the same name, and has languished in development hell for almost a decade. Beginning as a direct sequel by the developers of the original game, Human Head Studios, production later shifted to Arkane Studios before that iteration of the title was cancelled in 2014. Arkane then took some of the concepts of the original game and began working on a re-imagining, which was officially announced during Bethesda’s E3 press conference in 2016.
Shucking the setting of the original game, Prey takes place on Talos 1, a space station used to imprison and experiment on aliens called the Typhon, which has since been overrun. Players will assume the role of Morgan Yu (whose gender can be chosen by the player), who must prevent the aliens from escaping and threatening the Earth.
Preordering the game grants access to the ‘Cosmonaut Shotgun Pack,’ which provides a unique weapon and a number of items to ease players into the game.

Prey will be released on May 5 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
