Volition, the developer behind the comical Saints Row series, has released a new trailer for its upcoming project, Agents of Mayhem, as well as some details about the game’s release.
The new trailer gives players a preview of some of the absurd driving and explosive gameplay featured in Agents of Mayhem. Similar to Saints Row, Agents of Mayhem will be a hilarious spoof on open-world, third-person, single-player action games such as the Grand Theft Auto series. The driving and goofy narrative reinforce the over-the-top animations and cartoonish graphics. Watch the full trailer below:
Agents of Mayhem is being developed for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is scheduled to release on August 15, 2017. Deep Silver will be handling publication.
Development on the game began shortly after the release of Saints Row IV. Unlike the Saints Row series, Agents of Mayhem features multiple playable characters. Volition decided to take the approach of implementing a variety of playable characters due to Saints Row fans cosplaying as the franchise’s supporting characters rather than the central character. Moreover, Volition wanted players to form strong connections with Agents of Mayhem’s characters. As a spin-off, Agents of Mayhem takes place in the Saints Row universe after the “Recreate Earth” ending of the Saints Row IV expansion, ‘Gat Out of Hell.’
Volition is an American video game developer located in Champaign, Illinois. The company is a subsidiary of Deep Silver. Volition is most known for the Saints Row and Red Faction series of video games, as well as the 2005 video game iteration of The Punisher—which was published by THQ for PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox.
