OtherSide Entertainment has announced that Warren Spector will be returning to the world of video games and will join the developer as Studio Director, and will be the lead developer on System Shock 3.
Currently lecturing at the University of Texas, the veteran developer best known for his work on the original System Shock, as well as games like Deus Ex, the Ultima series, and Epic Mickey left the industry in 2013 after the closure of Junction Point Studios, the developer he founded while working with Disney. However, it seems that Spector is back and happy to be working once again on the games that defined his early career.
“I’ve loved working with students as Director of the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy in the University of Texas’ Moody College of Communication,” Spector said. “But when the opportunity to have a bigger role in bringing Underworld Ascendant to life, as well as playing in the System Shock universe once again, helping to bring these games to a 21st century audience, I just couldn’t say no. Working on System Shock was one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done in my career and it’s hard to describe how much I’m looking forward to sharing with players what SHODAN has been up to since the last game was released.”
What do you think of Spector’s triumphant return to the System Shock universe? Hoping they might rope Ken Levine in as well to get the whole band back together?
