Five Games You Must Play This January

ARTICLESPONSORE

Once upon a time, January was a special recovery month where you could detox from the greatest excesses of the Christmas holiday. Those mince pies, marathon 4am Rocket League tourneys, and brandy binges were a thing of the past; your body had a chance to refresh and clean itself out. Well, no longer. Figuring that you’re too fat, cold, and poor to leave the house, producers of games have determined that January is a great time to release new games that would otherwise have gotten lost in the rush of Battlefront, Call of Duty, and FIFA. No longer a wasteland where new games get lost in barren terrain, January is now a month where you can splurge the rest of your Christmas cash. Whether you’re a console player, a fan of online casino games, or just a casual gamer looking for some new items to add to your collection, here are 5 of the best January games you shouldn’t miss this year.

1) Gone Home

Once the darling of the PC indie world, Gone Home is now available for the PS4 and Xbox One, on digital download platforms. With its vast, empty house and a number of interesting secrets to uncover, Gone Home is a sort of time capsule. It includes meticulously planned nostalgia that will bring you back to the real world, even as you are playing the game.

Released on Jan. 12, this game is one you must play if you’ve never tried it before.

2) Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster

The first Resident Evil game where you had your very own AI controlled friend to play with, Resident Evil Zero first showed up on the GameCube, which wasn’t Nintendo’s most popular console, to say the least. Complete with silly dialogue, dual protagonists to switch from, and its unique nostalgia-inducing features, Resident Evil Zero’s HD Remaster is available now on the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and PC, as well as the Xbox 360. It comes out on January 19.

3) Hyrule Warriors Legends

Remember Dynasty Warriors and its “stab a million soldiers to death each minute” gameplay style? Blended with characters from the Legend of Zelda, Hyrule Warriors Legends contains a ton of series favourites, hidden secrets, and unlockables. It’s a game not to be missed by those who love Zelda or who love hitting the same buttons time and time and time and time again. The game will be available for the 3DS on January 21.

4) Final Fantasy Explorers

A fully fledged RPG that follows a different style than what you’re likely to be used to from the series, Final fantasy explorers has a quest based structure similar to Monster Hunter. It is based on ticking things off your list and getting stronger over time rather than being caught up in an ongoing story. With a January 26 release Date, Final Fantasy Explorers is available on the 3DS.

5) LEGO Marvel’s Avenger

Expanding on the first LEGO Marvel game, this new version, which is available for Android, iOS, PC, 3DS, Wii U, and PS4 among others, gives players plenty of open worlds to explore. In addition, you’ll be able to explore New York City, a vast playground for players to discover interesting characters and quirks. You can also visit Hawkeye’s farm and even Asgard, as well as being able to relieve the best moments from the Avengers films. If you like this game, you might also like the popular online slots games delivered by Marvel, which include characters from the series.
